Lottie Bowron Memorial Bursary

The BCRSSTA awards two bursaries in the amount of $400 each for Teacher Candidates who aim to become rural teachers in BC. The bursary, entitled The Lottie Bowron Memorial Bursary, is intended to be a living-out allowance for a practicum placement that takes her or him out of the usual residence while in school (or out of one’s home community) and to a rural or remote area of the Province. Individuals can only win this bursary once and should apply for it prior to the completion of their teacher education program.
The bursary is a competitive scholarship that will be awarded at the successful completion of the long practicum.
The deadline for applications is usually in mid-January  each year. The adjudication committee reviews all essays submitted and posts the two selected essays by the end of February each year.

Professional Development Travel Grants

The BCRSSTA recognizes the costs and difficulties teachers in rural and remote areas have with attending professional development opportunities usually held in larger, central venues. We are proud to offer two $250. grants and one $500. grant - the Lottie Travel Grants - to teachers who would like to get together within their region to hold their own professional development, or in-service opportunities. The grant can cover fuel, food and miscellaneous costs. To apply for a Lottie Travel Grant contact Virginia Ivey at vcivey@xplornet.com
