The BC Rural & Small Schools Teachers' Association was formed in 1982 by teachers across the province. Recognizing unique circumstances and practices of teaching in small, and often remote, schools, our association exists to provide support to teachers of multi-grade classrooms who work and often live within small communities. We recognize both the demands and joys of such teaching and know first-hand the diverse and important roles of teachers and small schools in providing quality teaching to rural children.

Lottie Bowron  Memorial Bursary

The BCRSSTA is awarding two bursaries in the amount of $400 each for Teacher Candidates who aim to become rural teachers in BC. The bursary, entitled The Lottie Bursary, is intended to be a living-out allowance for a practicum placement that takes her or him out of the usual residence while in school (or out of one’s home community) and to a rural or remote area of the Province. Individuals can only win this bursary once and should apply for it prior to the completion of their teacher education program.
The bursary is a competitive scholarship that will be awarded at the successful completion of the long practicum.
The deadline for applications was January 15, 2010. The adjudication committee will be reviewing all essays submitted and will post the two selected essays by the end of January.
